  • Volcano route

    [guided hiking tour]

    The Volcano Route can possibly be described as the most spectacular and impressive trek. At 1440 m above sea level, our route starts from the Refugio el Pilar, from where we head south. Las Deseadas (two old craters) represent the highest point on our trek; 1949 m. The three neighbouring islands can be clearly seen on the horizon. After a gentle descent, we reach the Martin Volcano, which can be distinguished by its red tones contrasting with the green pine forests. When we get to Fuencaliente, we will have shown us how the inhabitants of the island used to have to carry their merchandise from the north to the south. Read more ...

Inside the about 9 km wide gigantic crater we walk downhill, starting at 1,000 m above sea level through forests of pinetrees, endemic in the Canary Islands Archipelago. We reach the Taburiente River - the only stream of the Canary Islands which has water all year round. Hiking through the land Acero with the holy rock of the aboriginal people called Idafe, we reach the Barranco de Los Angustias ravine which surprises us with its geological curiosities created by submarine volcanic eruptions. We start in the Cubo de La Galga gorge with its gigantic ferns, laurel trees and lianas and we continue until we reach the viewpoint La Somada Alta, where we enjoy a great panoramic view. From there the descending path heads us to the picturesque village of San Bartolo. After a break we cross the impressive Los Nogales gorge and walk along banana plantations and vineyards until we reach the viewpoint of Nogales Beach. Read more ...

    With 4x4 vehicles we go uphill until we are at an altitude of about 1,400 m. Equipped with helmets and torches we follow a long and old canal passing exotic plants and coming into a mystic scenery, created by impressive clouds. We go through 13 tunnels on our trail to the Springs of Marcos & Cordero. After the last spring the path leads continously downward and through the Barranco de Agua ravine until we reach the laurel forest of Los Tilos with the Visitors Center of the Biosphere reserve at its end.
